Snowdon, Orienteering, Beer, Cleaning and Marshals

The Isle of Man are intending to send a representative team to take part in the Snowdon International Mountain Race on July 19th. A team of four runners will be selected with the first three to finish the race the team counters. Team selection will be based on current form. The Snaefell race will be used as a selection race if there are more than four runners who qualify for the team.

All members of MFR who wish to be included in teams for the Easter Festival of running should get their entries in as soon as possible. When we know who are running we will select teams based on form. Anyone interested in the Beer Race on the Sunday evening should let Nigel Maddocks know.

We hope to have an Orienteering Training event in the near future. Chris Kirk has a course planned but it can`t be used for a few weeks yet. Full info shortly.

Another MFR event planned for the Summer is a Beach Buddies style clean up on the hills. Possibly after the TT on the Snaefell section. If anyone knows of another area, preferably where we run, that could do with a clean up then please contact us.

Any runner who plans on completing the 2014 Wi Manx fell league who has not put their name down to marshal should note that Monday 31st March is the last chance to do so. If you have not volunteered by then you will not be included in the league. Details on Marshals chart

Narradale Fell Race - updated 17-3-14

RESULTS

Low cloud resulted in a number of navigation issues, including 3 runners having a great race to the finish, but in the heat of it they unfortunately missed the final safety check point resulting in disqualification!

Thanks again to all the marshals.

Round four of the Wi Manx Fell League takes place on Sunday 16th March. The Narradale is the first long race of 2014 covering a 20km course with the start and finish at Sulby Claddaghs. There will be an early start at 9.00am for anyone expecting to take more than three hours.   The main race starts at 10.00am. Full safety gear is mandatory for all competitors. This will be inspected at registration which will be from 8.30am until 8.50am for the early start and 9.10am until 9.50am for the main race. All competitors must have completed a medium or long fell race or taken part in the organised recce to gain entry.

Slieu Managh plantation is again out of bounds, as is running on and/or crossing the TT course. CPs 4 & 5 may be visited in any order.

Easter festival 2014

Manx Fell Runners would like to show their support for the Easter Festival of Running by encouraging as many teams as possible to enter for this years event. As reigning local team champions we would be looking to have our strongest possible line up in our A team. Any runner who would like to be considered for the top team should contact me [email protected] as soon as possible. Selection will be based on current form. For those who would prefer a more leisurely and sociable weekend we will help to make up MFR teams, same contact if you wish to be part of a team. As last year we put a big emphasis on the post race refreshments!
Unfortunately we will not be able to subsidise the entry fees for MFR runners.

League marshals

Please put your name down for a marshalling spot by 31st March to count in the league.

Anyone who does not have a nominated marshal by this time will not be eligible for completion and therefore not receive the highly prized MFR sweater or hoodie!

The marshals chart will be available for placing your name on a marshal position at Baldwins Valley registration, please only use this chart until the web chart is updated with these details following the race.

Ard Whallan Fell Race 2014 - results now published on the results page.

Well done to all 64 finishers, and many thanks to all the helpers and marshals.

Unfortunately one runner has been disqualified for missing a safety check point.

Race distance is 12.5km with 750m of ascent.

Any runner who has not completed a medium or long fell race or has not attended one of the two recent recces of the course will not have their entries accepted. The only exception will be if an experienced runner agrees to run the full race distance with a novice.

Please do not park at the Outdoor Pursuit Centre as there is limited parking. There is plenty of space on the road outside and the Colden Car Park is just a few hundred metres to the north.

All competitors should note that the start and finish will be at the Outdoor Pursuit Centre. The route will go straight up through the fields from the Centre to the mountain wall, a couple of hundred metres north of the gate used last year and for the recces. This section will be fully flagged. From here the route goes to the unmanned check on Colden.

Showers and refreshments will be available in the Centre after the race.
