Creg Ny Baa Race

The latest news from the Department of Infrastructure is the Mountain Road will remain closed all of Saturday.

The Bungalow is accessible from Tholt-Y-Will Road.

For the race, we have permission to travel with caution on the Mountain Road from Brandywell Road or Ramsey Hairpin to the Bungalow. The only vehicle with permission to travel from the Brandywell Road in the direction of Windy Corner is the official marshal. Runners have permission to cross the road at Windy Corner. Please proceed with caution when on the Mountain Road as there could be Infrastructure teams at work in the area. A big thankyou to the guys at Infrastructure for their help and assistance.

The post race meeting drinks at The Railway, Union MIlls.

Don`t forget if you fancy a pint on Saturday evening we are meeting in the Woody at around 7.30pm. The birthday boy will be there!

Rob Campbell Trig Point Challenge

Please see details below on what sounds a great challenge and fun day out, perfectly suited to fell runners! Details via Jim MacGregor from St Ninians High School. Jim worked with Rob Campbell who tragically lost his life last year. Rob had participated in several fell runs and the IOM Mountain Ultra as well as being a keen footballer. Any money raised will go toward a new gym for the students of St Ninians for whom Rob was a much respected and popular PE teacher.

Team Challenge - Sunday 3rd May
The plan is that each team taking part tries to get at least 10 participants for the challenge or
as many as they can. The aim is to visit all 13 checkpoints in the shortest amount of time. This
does not including driving between points. Each minibus will have two support staff who will time their group and record their times. The 3 fastest cumulative times from each group will be added together to give the groups times in a league table. A prize will be awarded for the fastest group. If any members wish to stop they will either need to arrange their own transport to be collected or carry on in the minibus and support their group. All groups will follow the same route and order of trig points starting at trig point 1 (Sartfield) and finish at trig point 13 (Howstrake golfcourse)

The minibuses will depart at 9.00am from St Ninians High School and will have two support staff who will be able to provide first aid cover and Communications. It is important that the support staff have phone numbers and emergency contact numbers for all participants.

It would be great if each participant tried to raise £30 (roughly £2 a trig point) but any money
raised would be great and would go towards kitting out a new gym for the students at St Ninians High School.

Access: Some trig points have required special access arrangements and so should only be attempted at the stated time using the route described. Unfortunately there are 15 trig points on the Isle of Man but two landowners have declined access.

Fell Running and Hypothermia.

With the current conditions on the upland fells and given this weekends weather forecast it would be prudent for all runners new and experienced to make themselves familiar with the FRA's (Fell Running Associations) Guidance on Hypothermia, how to avoid and what to do if you are unfortunate enough to get it.
