The British Champs races this year are:

http://www.nimra.org.uk/index.php/events/event/donard-challenge/

Sat June 7th Ennerdale Horeshoe, Lake District (long)

Sat June 28th Dollar, Scotland (medium)

Sat Aug 30th Maesgwm Muddle, Llanberis (medium)

Club away weekends are:

Travel out Fri 16th, return Sun 18th May (Cader Idris or Fairfield)

Sat 19th July Snowdon International (possibility of uphill only race as well).

Note: It is also intended to send an IOM team to Snowdon, consisting of 3 to 4 men, and 2 to 3 ladies. Selection will be based on form prior to July. Interested runners should inform the committee, and also provide details of none league races that demonstrate current form.

It would be great to get as many MFRs as possible to travel to these events to promote the club, plus there will be some great racing (and socialising!)

Runners are requested to make their own travel arrangements.

Small grants are available from IOMAA to assist with travel.

MFR will further assist runners with accommodation costs up to £25 per race for attendance at any 2 championship races per year.

Ard Whallan Fell Race 2014 - results now published on the results page.

Well done to all 64 finishers, and many thanks to all the helpers and marshals.

Unfortunately one runner has been disqualified for missing a safety check point.

Race distance is 12.5km with 750m of ascent.

Any runner who has not completed a medium or long fell race or has not attended one of the two recent recces of the course will not have their entries accepted. The only exception will be if an experienced runner agrees to run the full race distance with a novice.

Please do not park at the Outdoor Pursuit Centre as there is limited parking. There is plenty of space on the road outside and the Colden Car Park is just a few hundred metres to the north.

All competitors should note that the start and finish will be at the Outdoor Pursuit Centre. The route will go straight up through the fields from the Centre to the mountain wall, a couple of hundred metres north of the gate used last year and for the recces. This section will be fully flagged. From here the route goes to the unmanned check on Colden.

Showers and refreshments will be available in the Centre after the race.

St John's 2014

The opening round of the 2014 Wi- Manx Fell Running League takes place on New Years Day. The St Johns Race has been sponsored for a number of years by Supercards who unfortunately will have closed their doors for the final time before race day 2014. However the committee of organising club Manx Fell Runners are delighted to announce that Supercards owner David Cretney has agreed to continue the sponsorship personally in the future.
The short race is one of the highlights in the fell running calendar and usually attracts a large entry. Although the race is very competitive the organisers are keen to encourage as many novice runners as possible to have a go as the course is sporting but by no means over difficult. Most people with a reasonable standard of fitness should be able to complete the 5km course. In keeping with the festive time of year all competitors are invited to run in fancy dress.
For spectators, and there is usually a big turnout, the infamous Mullen Y Cloie water splash is the most popular spot. Every runner who takes an early bath in the freezing cold water is guaranteed a big cheer.
Start and finish is based at St Johns Football Club with registration from 12.45pm until 1.45pm. Race starts at 2.00pm.
All entry fees will be donated to local charities.
Minimum age is 12 years.
Safety gear is not compulsory for this race but the organisers recommend that all runners carry a waterproof top.

Ard Whallin Recce

The first of the official recces of the Ard WhallIn course will be held on Sunday 22nd December. Meet by the entrance to the Ard WhallIn Outdoor Pursuits Centre (please do not park in the Centre car park) at 9.00am. It will probably take about two hours at a steady pace.

Please note that any runner who has not completed a medium or long fell race previously will only have their entry accepted for the Ard Whallin race if they take part in this recce or a further one to be held in January.

The recce is open to runners of all standards.

Winter Hill League Round 3 - Slieau Whallian

The final round of the Isle of Man Bank sponsored Winter Hill Running League takes place on Saturday 14th December at St Johns. The race will be held over a short testing course mostly within Slieau Whallian Plantation. The course will be fully marked.

Minimum age is school year 7.

Racing gets under way at 1.30pm with registration from 12.30pm at the car park opposite the Farmers Arms.

Rentokil 2005-2013

Following the announcement of Wi-Manx as the sponsor of the 2014 Manx Fell Runners – Fell League, the organising committee of Manx Fell Runners would like to extend their gratitude to club member David Quine and Rentokil Pest Control for their support of the fell league over the past 8 years. Without this valued financial assistance and support, finishers of the fell league would not have the myriad of coloured jerseys since 2005 to be proud of.

With Thanks,

Manx Fell Runners.

Walter's Book

Walter Kennaugh made a meticulous record of local fell races, all detailed in a hand written account which has now been scanned to preserve it in electronic form. It makes for a great read and covers results from 1988 all the way through to 2006.

You can view the scanned version here but bear in mind that as it is scanned in colour it is around 60Mb in size so please be patient when downloading it! Colour was the best option to preserve as much detail and feel for the original as possible but a black & white copy will be made available also. It is also planned to transfer the results to a format which can be published on the website (thanks to Roger Moughtin who is meticulously typing each race results into a spreadsheet!)
