Online registration is now closed but you can still enter on the day.

Overnight accommodation is also available and we are planning a bit of a shindig in the evening for those interested but this should be pre-booked so we know how many to expect - see http://www.manxfellrunners.org/ard-whallan-mini-break for more details.

St Johns Fell Race 2017

The traditional curtain raiser to the season kicks off on New Years Day with the St Johns Fell Race. Online entry is now closed but you can still enter on the day.

In a change for 2017, the race will not form part of the MFR league so please don't hold back on the fancy dress! Anyone aged 12 or over can have a go at this tough but fun 5km course.

Registration will be from 12:15 in the St Johns FC clubhouse with the race commencing at 1:30pm.

Refreshments (tea, coffee and soup) will be served in the clubhouse after the race and the bar will be open!

Club membership forms will be available for new and renewing members and a copy of the marshal chart for any volunteers.

Aston International WHL League Standings

164 runners completed at least one race in the series

164 runners completed at least one race in the series

A great end to the WHL for 2016 with nearly 60 runners completing the 3 race series. Some fantastic performances from some of the junior runners with James Strickett (Yr11) of Northern AC claiming the top spot and a very commendable 5th overall. Joshua O'Neill (Yr8) put in some outstanding performances, especially considering his age, to finish 12th overall. Kate Cashin (Northern AC, Yr9) was clear pick of the girls finishing 21st overall and outright second of the female runners.

Some new faces made very promising debuts too, none more so than Western AC's Orran Smith who just edged out veteran Ian Gale over the series to take 2nd place to league winner Ben Corkill who comfortably took outright victory by nearly 5 minutes on cumulative time. Andy Corrie progressed through the series

Race results from today will follow when available. Thanks to all involved over the series which proved to be the most popular so far.

Next up is the season curtain raiser at St Johns - 1:30pm on New Years Day. Note that this race will not form part of the MFR league so no excuses not to go a bit crazier with the fancy dress and indulge in a few more drinks on New Years Eve!

Aston International Winter Hill League Round 3

The third and final round of the Aston International sponsored Winter Hill League will be held on Saturday 3rd December at Eary Beg plantation, Glen Helen. Start time will be 1.30pm with registration from 12.30pm at the Glen Helen car park.

There will be no online pre entry for this race - new runners should just turn up and complete the form on the day.

Runners are reminded to bring the race numbers they were issued with at either of the previous two rounds. The presentation of awards will be held at the Tynwald Inn, St Johns after the race. Chip baps will be available for all competitors.

Hopefully we will end the league with another bumper entry. So far there have been over 140 individual runners taking part. Dixie has promised a challenging course!

An excellent turnout of 105 runners tackled the revised course through Cringle plantation with Lloyd Taggart claiming a narrow victory over Ben Corkill by just 2 seconds.

Keri Parry took the honours in the ladies category and there were several notable performances amongst the junior categories, headed by Alex Bell and Rhys Owen who both recorded top 10 finishes.

Results in full can be viewed here - RESULTS

Many thanks to all the helpers, timekeepers, Tom Cringle for designing the revised course, DEFA and sponsors Aston International. An extra word of thanks also to Alan Brew and Svetlin Krastev for sacrificing their own races to come to the aid of junior runner Harry Read and escorting him to the finish line. We wish him a speedy recovery.

The next and final round will be held at Glen Helen on Saturday December 3rd, 1.30pm. This will be followed by the presentation at the Tynwald Inn (including chip baps).
