Route description and Map

*Mountain Road to be crossed by the bridge only.

Please note the race crosses private land which have permission to use on the race day only.

There is a straightforward diversion for anyone wishing to recce the course before race day.

Please see the notes ** and DO NOT cross the private land outside of the race day.

Start: 396867: From the start by the tram lines, proceed SE along the ridge to the cairn at Cronk-

y-Vaare 411863 - CP1.

From CP1 head north down the steep slope, crossing the tram lines with care (no trams will be in

service on race day). From the stream, head up the short slope to the ‘Mine Captain’s House’

409874 - CP2 (safety counter check point). Be sure to keep the mine workings to your left - due to

recent land slips, this area is out of bounds for safety reasons.

From CP2 follow the public footpath from the main track, heading NE. Cross the stile (409876)

and then proceed using any route to the summit of Clagh Ouyr 414889 - CP3.

From CP3 follow the obvious trail to the summit of North Barrule 444909 - CP4. All fences and

walls MUST be crossed using stiles and gates.

Descend from CP4 to the gate at 454913 - CP5 (safety counter check point). Please note that if

the weather is particularly bad, this CP will be moved to the road junction at the bottom of this

field 455914. There is a cut off time of 2 hours at this check point.

** Recce: If you wish to recce the race, you need to follow the green lane from CP5 up to the

tholtan at Park Lewellyn CP7, and continue the route south from there.

From CP5 ascend using any route to the memorial at the crash site on the side of North Barrule

442907 - CP6. From CP6 follow the flags through the compulsory section of the race.

The compulsory section ends near the tholtan at Park Lewellyn 437899 - CP7. Go through the

gate at the check point and follow any route to the old mines, making sure that any walls and

fences are ONLY CROSSED using gates or stiles.

From the mines 428890 - CP8, cross the river and head SE to the summit of Slieau Ouyr 435879

- CP9.

Drop back into the valley to the stream junction at 419883 - CP10.

Head by any route to the stile (409876) and drop back to the Mine Captain’s House 409874 -CP11 (safety counter check point). For safety reasons the route to the finish is flagged, follow the flags to the finish at the Bungalow.
