James Coulson Laxey Races

The third event in the 26/27 MFR league takes place on the 24th October from Glen Roy Farm, Lonan, covering a distance of 13k with 650 metres of ascent over some of our more gentle hills.

There will also be a short course option for juniors and those who may be new to our sport or perhaps recovering from injury? This course is a flagged 5k with 350 metres of climb and is a counter for our junior and short course leagues.

Tom has already kindly up the link to enter on the website : https://www.fabian4.co.uk/default.aspx?EventID=4308.... Please note that if you have already entered the series you don’t need to enter again. Route information and a downloadable map are here: https://manxfellrunners.org/james-coulson-laxey . If you plan to recce some of the route ( always recommended) please note that the land from the start to the mountain wall between CPs 1&2 and from the wall CP8 to the finish is private land with access on race day only and the route will be flagged on these parts. If recceing, access can be easily gained from the Bungalow, Windy Corner or Creg ny Baa on the mountain road.

Safety kit is compulsory comprising full body cover of waterproof jacket( with hood attached) and over trousers, both with taped seams, hat (not a cap), gloves, whistle, map of the course ( in a suitably waterproof bag so it does not disintegrate in the inevitable rain!), compass suitable for navigation using the map and emergency food. Also bring a long sleeve base layer ( in a dry bag if not worn) which may be insisted on depending on weather conditions on the day. Safety kit is also required for the junior/short course but with no need for map and compass or emergency food but please bring a long sleeved top …just in case.

The use of electronic navigation aids such as GPS is prohibited but may be used to determine position for safety purposes, for example if lost but doing so means you must retire from the race.

Registration will be open from 09.15 with the long race due to start at 10.30 followed by the junior/short course. Safety kit will be checked at registration and please note that with this being our third series event where kit is checked you have no excuses for getting it wrong! If you have unsuitable or missing kit you will not be allowed to run….so to avoid the disappointment make sure you get it right and if this is all new to you and you are unsure if your kit complies please feel free to ask before the day?

Limited vehicle parking should be available in the field at Glen Roy Farm but, as usual, please try and car share. Use of the field for parking is very much dependant on how wet the weather is in the days preceding the event. As has happened in the past ( in summer!) we may need to restrict use of the field to 4x4 vehicles so please check on here for an update a day or two before and be prepared to make fresh plans.

As usual we need a number of marshals to safely run this event so if you can help please do? Also, runners please remember or ( be aware if new to this) that to complete the MFR full league you are required to marshal a race ( or provide a suitably experienced substitute). If you can marshal please message Jude Wade on fb.
