The 2021 Wilderness Challenge will start and finish at Ardwhallan on Sunday 19th September.
Entries are now open, so please follow the link below. Sign on will be from 9.00am with the first pair off at 10.00am. Full safety kit is required and in addition, each pair must carry a charged mobile phone, the number for which will be required when you enter.
It will count as a 'Medium Race' if you and your partner can collect 100 points or more from the course. Minimum age on the day is 14, as along as your partner is 21 years or older, and parental consent is in place.
For those that haven't done this event yet, the rules are simple:
You turn up with your partner (you need to stay with your partner throughout the event).
When it's your turn to go, you are given a map and 2.5 hours to visit as many check points as you think you can. (Pairs are set off at regular intervals.) Each check point is worth points, somewhere between 20 and 40 points, and you choose your route.
After 2.5 hours, or sooner, you finish. If you're late, you lose 5 points per minute. If you're over 30 minutes late, it's game over.
The winner is the pair with the most points in the shortest time.
Full mandatory safety kit is required. Map will be provided.
The event involves quick thinking, route choice and navigation. It's great fun
League points are awarded using the usual system, but each member of the pair will get the same.
Please leave the area alone this week, as we will be setting up the course. There are plenty of other hills to run up!

Well done to the 27 runners who took part in at least one of the Junior League races this season. After some very close racing, an excellent number of 15 athletes qualified having ran the required 4 races from 6.
Congratulations to Northern AC pair Lucas Stennett and Madison McMullan who topped their respective class. There will be a prize presentation later in the season, probably tied in with the final Winter Hill League race, details will be posted nearer the time.
It’s only a few days since the Slieau Ruy race but next up in the Callin Wild Manx Fell Running League is the James Coulson Laxey Race on Friday, 30th July at 7pm. Registration at Glen Ruy farm (Google Map) from 6pm.
Once again there will long and short course options. The short course route remains the same as 2020, following the track to Windy Corner before returning via a flagged route to the finish. The route will be marshalled to ensure short course runners take the same route!
The long course route has been amended and no longer visits the checkpoints in Snaefell Mines valley or Cronk-y-Vaare. Full information and updated map via link below.
Long course runners will require full safety kit (including printed map); short course runners should be prepared to carry a waterproof jacket and whistle.
