The Winter Hill League will be upon us later this month with round one kicking off on Saturday 14th October. Note that this will be held at Ard Whallan and not Slieau Whallian as in previous years. Registration is from 12:15 - 13:15 with the race going off at 13:30.
This series is designed as an introduction to the sport and take place on fully marked courses all under 5km in distance. Runners must be 12 to enter (13 by 31/12/2023). No special kit is required, just some trainers with some grip!
You can enter each race individually or (preferably) the entire 3 race series. Costs are £5 for seniors or £2 for juniors (£15/£6 for the series). Entries are available on the day but will cost £10 for seniors (still £2 for juniors). This is to encourage online entry and reduce the administrative effort associated with entries on the day (and get faster results!)
PRE ENTRY (Now closed. Entries available on the day but priced at £10, Juniors £2)

This Saturday afternoon (9th Sept) sees the return of the Manx Wilderness Challenge. The event has been run every two years in an effort to keep it feeling fresh. Basically we don't have enough wilderness for an annual event!
Anyway, this year sees the start/finish at the Bungalow.(Please do not recce the area this week!!) Parking is snug, so please car share. The list of competitors is available on sientries, so please check and offer lifts.
You and your partner will need to have signed on between 12.15 and 1.15. There will then be a race brief and pairs will be set off at one minute intervals.
Kit: full safety kit must be carried by both runners and EACH will also need a fully charged mobile phone.
Juniors: A junior who is 14 years or older on race day may race if their partner is over 21 years old. Parental permission will be needed.
I'll be using this event to remember my friend Matthew Mcsevney with a suitable bottle of malt - you'll be invited raise a dream at some point over the afternoon.
Finally, rumour has it that there may be cake afterwards, if Jude, Doug and I haven't eaten it!

Manx Fell Runners will be promoting the annual Killer Mile on Wednesday 16th August and it will be a counter in the No Rest for the Wicked series. The time trial based race will be held on the Douglas Head course starting next to the Marine Drive just south of the Pigeon Stream car park with the finish near the radio masts at Carnane, Upper Howe. The course will be fully marked and marshalled.
Pre entry will be available via link below with entry fees paid either online or at registration on the day. It will be £5 for seniors and £1 for juniors. All entry fees will be donated to the excellent charity Cruse Bereavement. Registration will be at the start area from 18.00 until 18.50. All those contesting the NRFTW series will be automatically entered for the Killer and do not need to pay at registration, just pick up their race number. It may be possible to enter on the day but we strongly advise everyone to pre enter. This event is ideal for the whole family to have the opportunity to compete against each other in the same race. Any families who wish to start in the same group should register together and we will try to accommodate them. Minimum age is 9 years. Parents/guardians of any junior runners who have not yet competed in an MFR organised event this year, and/or not already submitted a valid consent form can download one from the MFR main page https://manxfellrunners.org (to the right of this post) or fill one in at registration. Consent forms are valid for the remainder of 2023. The race is a counter in the 2023 Junior Fell League.
It is the competitor’s responsibility to be ready to start at their allocated time which will be written on their race numbers. Runner`s will be set off in groups of 5 at 30 second intervals. First group off will be at 19.01. There is ample parking on the Marine Drive but please park carefully. There are no toilet facilities at the venue. The nearest are at the Sea Terminal or at the Battery Pier near the Manx Petroleum Fuel Depot.
The whole of the course is on private land including the road up to the Upper Howe. Only race officials have permission to drive up to the finish on the day. Spectators are welcome to walk the course from the Marine Drive but please stay close to the marked route. At the request of the farmer no dogs anywhere on the course please.
Ellan Vannin returns to the calendar this Sunday 30th July with registration from 08:45 until 9:30am. The race will start at 10am from Ballaugh Plantation Car Park.

This is an AL category race so minimum age is 18 (19 by 31/12/2023) and full safety kit will be mandatory.

Congratulations to the 100+ runners who tackled the new North Barrule race on Wednesday evening. The weather cleared up nicely as the evening approached. Thanks to all the marshals and to Manx Utilities and Philip Christian for access. Philip also provided parking, without which we would have struggled!
That cat wasn’t going nowhere!
Full results are now up from Sunday’s event. Thanks to sponsors Erin Bike Hut, Knockaloe Beg Farm for hosting (and that cat!) and the myriad of helpers and marshals. Any anomalies just get in touch via Facebook or comment.
