Killer Mile Results 2018

(Thanks to Philip Crowe for the excellent photographs - https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=oa.1873513762735749&type=3)

Despite the now typical weather for the Killer Mile, there was an excellent turnout of 98 runners on Wednesday evening. Chris Reynolds excels over these short, sharp courses and took the win over NRFTW half marathon series leader Orran Smith with Matt Callister having a great run to take 3rd. Eleanor Miklos finished high up the field to finish top lady, followed by Northern AC's junior, Catherine Perry and NRFTW marathon series leader, Kirsty Arnold.

It was pleasing to see a large number of younger runners tackling the course with Northern AC once again providing a strong contingent of well placed competitors.

Thanks to all the helpers, timekeepers, marshals and to Silly Moos for the use of their land for parking and registration. All entry fees will be donated to the Ramsey Ladies Lifeboat Guild, as nominated by Silly Moos.

North Barrule Fell Race 2018

2018 sees a new route which covers the south eastern slope of North Barrule. Penultimate race in the Callin Wild MFR League

2018 sees a new route which covers the south eastern slope of North Barrule. Penultimate race in the Callin Wild MFR League

WEDNESDAY 25th JULY 2018, 7pm.

2018 sees a new route for the race, taking in the southern section of the fell. This will be a short, but challenging route, akin to the guides races that started our sport. It will involve navigation and there is the potential for a short, technical section through the scree and boulders, with a fast descent to the finish. This is also the last race in the junior series. Due to the cancellation of the junior Snaefell race, only 2 races are needed to qualify for the junior championship.

The route starts at the gate on the Hibernia road. There is a short flagged section from/to the start and finish to take you diagonally back and forth across the field to a kiss gate. This is a compulsory out and back section. From the kissing gate, it is any route to CP1, which is the flag pole at the crash site memorial. Then on to CP2 which is the trig point on North Barrule. From CP2 it is any route back to the kiss gate, before following the flagged section to the finish by the gate.

The route is just over 2 miles, with about 1100 feet of climbing.

Pleas note that parking and signing on for the race will be just down the road from the start on the right (as you come from the coast road). We have permission to use this as a car park and marshals will be on hand to supervise parking. It is a narrow road, so please take care and avoid parking on the verges.

I have also been asked by the farmer to remind people not to climb fences or walls. There is no need to do either on this route. Also, the area is heavily used for sheep farming, so if you choose to bring dogs on a recce, please keep them on leads. No dogs on race day.

James Coulson Laxey Fell Race 2018

The 6th round of the Callin/Wild Manx Fell Running League takes place on Wednesday 23rd May. Start and finish of the James Coulson Laxey Race will be at Glen Ruy Farm with a 7.00pm start. Registration will be from 6.00pm and the minimum age to compete is 18 years on race day. Full safety gear is mandatory and will be checked at registration.

A good part of the 13km course goes over Glen Ruy and Ballacowin Farms and is therefore on private land. Most of these farm sections will be clearly flagged on race day. Please no recce`s over these sections. The route can be inspected from the unnamed summit checkpoint 2 GR. 394826 through to the final checkpoint (8) on the mountain wall above Ballacowin Farm. Access to this section is easiest from Windy Corner.

To get to Glen Ruy Farm go along the Creg Ny Baa back road past Conrhenny Plantation and take the first on the left past 5 ½ Corner (Begoade Rd). Follow the Glen Ruy road to the farm. There will be a sign at the farm entrance. Please be careful on this road as it is very narrow. (Richie Stevenson)

Carraghan Fell Race Results 2018

DSC_0015.JPG

An excellent field of 85 runners tackled a misty Carraghan race, all of whom managed to get home, some despite minor route deviations! It was great to see some new faces who braved the less than seasonal conditions nonetheless and record some excellent performances.

Thanks as ever to all the marshals, landowners, timekeepers and helpers for their assistance.

Carraghan Fell Race 2018

A few reminders for Thursdays Buchanan and Pitts sponsored Carraghan Fell Race, the first short race in this years Callin Wild Manx Fell League. Please do not park near the start and finish area as this will be required for the officials. The Colden car park can be used and also on the road at the side of the reservoir but please park carefully. We would advise as many as possible to car share. Registration is from 6.00pm until 6.45pm at the Colden car park. If you have pre entered you will only have to sign the disclaimer, pay the entry fee of £5 and collect your race number. If you have not pre entered you will have to fill in an entry form. Race starts at 7.00pm.  Minimum age 12yo on race day. This race also forms round 2 of the Junior Championship.

At the moment the weather forecast is not too bad but it is not going to be very warm. Please turn up with you full safety gear. A decision as to what has to be carried will be made at registration depending on conditions. The course will be flagged from the start to the top of the plantation which is a compulsory route out and back. Once over the stile runners can take any route to the summit. Any spectators who are planning on taking their dogs to the race please keep them on a lead and within the confines of the plantation. On no account take dogs out on to the open fells as there are many sheep with young lambs in this area. It would be helpful if everyone could recycle old safety pins (Richie Stevenson)
