Well done to all runners who managed to find their way through the fog to the finish line. Provisional results for the full race are here and for the short race are here.
Sunday 1st September sees our next event counting towards the Callin Wild League and traversing the classic ( and obscurely named? ) Creg ny Baa course.
This race is being run in memory of Kate Burge who was tragically involved in a road accident whilst riding her pushbike 10 years ago. Following Kate’s move to the Island she quickly got involved in MFR events with some fantastic results and is greatly missed by all in the club who knew her. All proceeds from this race will be donated to Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team who operate in an area regularly frequented and loved by Kate. Wasdale is also the lifelong home of fell running legend and Manx Mountain Marathon winner Joss Naylor who sadly passed away recently and who MFR would also like to also remember in a fitting manner. Please feel free to make a donation at registration if you would like to.
Entries are open at: https://www.sientries.co.uk/event.php?elid=Y&event_id=13986 and updated route information and map can be found at: https://manxfellrunners.org/creg-ny-baa . There will also be a fully flagged junior/short course counter involving a 4.8 km out and back route ascending Mullagh Ouyr and descending to Windy Corner. Entries can be made on the day at an additional rate of £10 and £2 for juniors but online entry really helps ease the organisation of our races.
Registration will be open at the Victory Cafe from 09.00 and the Creg race will start at 09.45 near the cafe . The short course will start beyond the footbridge and both races will finish at this location.
Full safety kit is required comprising hood attached waterproof (with taped seams) jacket and trousers, hat, gloves, map of the course, whistle and emergency food. Junior/ short course runners do not require a map or emergency food and the requirement may be relaxed on the day but please make sure you bring this kit with you. Safety kit will be checked at registration.
Vehicle parking is available at the Bungalow and on the Tholt y Will Road. Please do not park vehicles at the Victory Cafe or on the approach road which is required for customers.
Entries now open for the 2024 edition of the Killer Mile. Please note the slight change to the registration location and course. Registration will now be at the Nunnery (6pm) and the race route will follow the private lane opposite the Nunnery, finishing at the usual location by the masts. Distance will be slightly shorter but the climb a little steeper! Entry fee is £5, juniors free. All entry fees will be donated to the Great North Air Ambulance and a collection bucket will be available on the night.
NRFTW RUNNERS DO NOT NEED TO ENTER SEPARATELY FOR THIS RACE
INFO AND ENTRY
Next up is the James Coulson Laxey fell race
Saturday 27th July starting at 13.30 with registration open from 12.30 at Glen Ruy Farm, Glen Roy, Lonan. GR407837
This is medium category A race but also includes a junior/ short course which will be fully flagged. Both races qualify for their respective MFR leagues. Full safety kit comprising waterproof full body cover, with taped seams and an attached hood, gloves, hat, whistle, compass, map of the course and emergency food will be required for the longer course and the same but without the need to carry food, map and compass for the junior/ short course.
There are a couple of very important points to note for this event.
Firstly online entry is being provided by Fabian 4 which the club is trialling with a view to using in the future and can be accessed using the following link: https://www.fabian4.co.uk/default.aspx?EventID=3707
Secondly the route has changed from previous years in parts so please take particular note of the route description and map which can be found on the MFR website using the link: https://manxfellrunners.org/james-coulson-laxey.
When recceing please note that the section from the start to the Mountain Wall and the last section through the fields from the Mountain Wall is on private land with no access except on the day. These parts of the course will be flagged.
Please be aware that this route is officially categorised on the FRA website as requiring navigation skills. If you are not confident in navigating in poor visibility using a map and compass please consider whether this is the race for you or better still attend Jim MacGregors navigation exercise at Windy Corner on Saturday 13th July at 11.00. This event is aimed at honing those navigation skills and all are welcome.
Results from the Carraghan race are now available here.
Entrants for senior long, senior short and junior leagues are shown together.
Amendments to fixtures on 1st and 29th Sept.
For organisational reasons, regrettably , we will have to cancel the planned Kate Burge Sea to Summit race due on the 1st September.
MFR propose to replace this race with another and after long consideration would suggest that the Axnfell Race be moved to the 1st September (for both organisational and improved safety reasons). A medium category race will be identified to be run on the 29th September which ideally can include a junior/ short course which was not possible on the Sea to Summit race.
We are aware this proposed change may negatively impact any runners who intend to complete the league but still need to finish a long race and would be unable to run on the 1st Sept which is within the school holiday period or the 29th if you need a medium race to qualify?
If this is the case we kindly ask that you contact MFR to make us aware ASAP. Since this is pressing please do so before the 7th July using the MFR contact form (https://manxfellrunners.org/club)
The next race in the Callin Wild Fell League is the short, but lung busting, Carraghan on Wednesday 10th July at 19.00. The route is the same as for the past few years, starting and finishing at the bridge at the head of Injebreck reservoir. All runners follow the same route. The route will be flagged up through the trees. Registration will be at Ard Whallan Outdoor Education Centre from 18.00-18.45. We have access to an outside toilet here if needed.
Entries are now open at: https://www.sientries.co.uk/event.php?event_id=13865

Finally, this race is run on PRIVATE LAND. We have been granted access for the race ONLY. Please do not recce the section above the fence line on Carraghan hill itself. Additionally, there are to be NO DOGS at all on the course, including at the start/finish area.
