Round 2 of the WHL takes place this Saturday (10th November) at Cringle Plantation, registration from 12:30pm, race off at 1.30pm. Minimum age is 12 on race day. A few things to bear in mind:
If you ran the last round at Slieau Whallian you do NOT need to enter online or fill any forms on the day. Just pay your entry free (£5, juniors free) and collect a new number from the registration desk. If you did not run the last round you will need to complete an entry form on the day.
New race numbers will be issued for each race - please don’t bring your number from the previous round!
Car parking has been an issue for this race so please car share where possible. A temporary one way traffic order is in place between 11:30am and 4pm. This will be from a point 100m south west of the entrance to Yn Reash (past the junction of the B41 Grenaby Road) to a point 100m north of the entrance to Ballaglashen Farm. The order applies in a south westerly direction from the Foxdale side of the B39 Corlea Road. See map image and copy of the order for more details. Depending on the weather a field may be available for car parking. Please cooperate with the marshals.
If approaching from the west, remember there is also a small car park on the A27 Round Table road which is just a short walk from the registration area, or you can approach via Foxdale. If approaching from Port Erin or Port St Mary please use the B41 Grenaby Road or Ballamodha - please do NOT approach via Ronague as you will arrive at the wrong end of the one way system!
Thanks to the Department of Infrastructure, the residents of Corlea Road and Steve Taggart for their assistance.
Don’t forget the MFR AGM takes place later in the day - 7pm at the Embassy Room, British Hotel, Douglas. Details HERE
The popular Winter Hill League, sponsored by Aston International, kicks off on Saturday 20th October with the 3km Slieau Whallian race. This fun but challenging course will be fully marked and offers an ideal introducing to fell running for anyone aged 12 or over.
Registration will be held in the old station car park from 12:30, race starts at 13:30. Cost is £5 for seniors, free for juniors. If weather conditions are particularly foul we may relocate to a bigger bus stop, or the Tynwald Inn, for registration - keep an eye on Facebook for any updates.
Please pre-enter if possible to save us time on the day - it’s still best for us if you pre enter and don’t run. Juniors can use the pre-entry but will need to complete a consent form to present at registration (download via pre entry link below)
ENTER ON DAY (PRE ENTRY CLOSED)

Many thanks to all those who made yesterday’s very special race happen . The sentiment has been summed up very nicely by a seasoned competitor over that gruelling course - our very own Richie Stevenson…
League standings to date can be viewed at the links below. Note that for 2018 the men and women are separated into different leagues but I have included the combined league to satisfy any curiosity! Points are allocated per race (combined for men and women) as per the league rules (100pts for 1st, 98 for 2nd and so on). If you entered a new category during the season then your league category will be as of January 1st 2018.
I've included runners who have completed 4 races already and need one more race (Axnfell) to qualify. Remember that runners must have completed a long race to qualify.
Common issues with the league include alternatively spelt names (Dave/David, Rich/Richard etc) and runners joining or switching clubs mid-season. I've tried to correct anything I've spotted but please let me know if anything seems amiss. In cases where you may have finished a race with another runner then points will only be equally allocated if the results/timekeepers indicate a dead heat. If you spot any results you think need amending then let me know.....but I'd ask that if it doesn't affect the overall rankings then it'd save me a fair amount of work to keep it as is!
MFR League 2018 - Provisional Mens
The final counter in the Callin Wild Fell Running League takes place on Saturday 15th September with the re-introduction of the eagerly anticipated Axnfell Race.
This race will be dedicated to our late treasurer, Matt McSevney, who would have relished the opportunity to tackle this very long and arduous fell race, last ran 21 years ago and considered by many to be the hardest fell race on the Island. All entry fees will be donated to CruzKids, part of Cruse Bereavement Care IOM, who have provided support to Matt's family (http://www.cruseisleofman.org/)
In recognition of the difficulty of this race and to make it more inclusive for those who may not have had the opportunity to put in the necessary training, we are running a shorter "Short Ax" race in conjunction. This AS category race will start alongside the long race but take a shorter 10km route to the Bungalow and back. Start time will also be 8am from the same location. Minimum age is 16 on the day of the race. Note that this shorter race DOES NOT COUNT toward the Callin Wild Manx Fell Running league.
Online pre-entry is available at the link below along with the route descriptions and maps.
